Guidelines to apply for accreditation under the Rules on Filming in the Precincts of Tynwald

In July 2025 Tynwald agreed updated Rules on Filming in the Precincts of Tynwald replacing the Code of Conduct for Journalists agreed in 2017.

Accredited journalists and other media personnel can film, record or broadcast within the precincts of Tynwald. To apply for accreditation, individuals must complete an application form covering:

• applicants details;
• the use which the applicant proposes to make of any video footage, audio recording or still photography; and
• to the extent known at the time of the application, where and when any video footage, audio recording or still photography made in reliance on accreditation is likely to be published.

Forms should be completed and returned for the attention of the Clerk of Tynwald via the Corporate Services Team - enquiries@tynwald.org.im
The applicant may be invited to meet with the Clerk of Tynwald or the Corporate Services Executive. Upon the application being approved a short familiarisation of the building will be conducted to acquaint the applicant with recognised areas used for filming, recording and broadcasting.

It is appreciated that occasionally an application will be made at short notice primarily by media from off island, and in this case the process must still be followed and a minimum of one hour should be allowed to complete any process before any work can take place.

Notes for editors:

• Tynwald is the oldest continuous parliamentary body in the world, having been established over 1,000 years ago. It serves as the legislature of the Isle of Man, a self-governing British Crown Dependency.
• The 35 members of the High Court of Tynwald are those of the two Branches, the House of Keys and the Legislative Council.
• The House of Keys is the directly elected Branch of Tynwald and has 24 Members, two from each of 12 constituencies. 
• The Legislative Council is the upper Branch of Tynwald. It has eight Members elected by the House of Keys and three ex officio Members namely the Bishop of Sodor and Man, His Majesty’s Attorney General for the Isle of Man, and the President of Tynwald.
• The Branches sit alone, primarily to consider legislation, and together as Tynwald Court, to consider matters of policy, finance and secondary legislation.
