The President of Tynwald, The Hon Laurence D Skelly MLC, has announced that planning is underway for this year’s Tynwald Ceremony and an enhancements programme to take place on Tuesday 5th July. He said:

Tynwald Day is our National Day that provides a wonderful opportunity to collectively celebrate everything that is Manx, especially our deep traditions, our Island community and our many achievements.

As a proud Manxman, I am deeply honoured to be attending the ceremony this year in my new role as President and look forward to welcoming our invited guests to witness the oldest continuous parliament in the world on our National Day.

The formal proceedings will begin with the Schools Parade at 10:10am. The Royal Navy Guard of Honour and the Band of HM Royal Marines Scotland will march to the Front Green and await the arrival of His Excellency, Lieutenant General Sir John Lorimer KCB DSO MBE, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s Personal Representative on the Isle of Man.

Following hundreds of years of tradition, a service in the Royal Chapel will be held, after which the Members of Tynwald process to Tynwald Hill where each Act of Tynwald will be read out in Manx and English. The promulgation of Acts on Tynwald Hill is required by statute and must be completed within 18 months of enactment or the Acts cease to have effect.

An important and historic part of Tynwald Day is the opportunity for any person to approach Tynwald Hill to present a Petition for Redress. Persons wishing to present Petitions for Redress are reminded that Petitions must comply with the Standing Orders of Tynwald. Tickets for seats on the Grandstand are priced £5 to include a programme issued on the day. A family ticket can be purchased for £15 for two adults and any number of children. Tickets will be on sale from Monday 6th June from Legislative Buildings, Finch Road, Douglas, or may be reserved by telephoning 685500. Card payments can be taken over the telephone if required.

Blue Badge holders wishing to attend Tynwald Day may apply for a parking pass entitling them to a reserved space at St John’s Primary School. To make a request, telephone 685500.
