06/03/2024Tynwald Members to attend 10th British Islands and Mediterranean Region Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians Conference
The Conference is being held in Malta from 6th-9th March 2024, and its main theme will be “Resilient Women: Moulding Girls into Strong Women”.
The delegates will take part in sessions on:
- Issues and challenges affecting Women across the Commonwealth, identifying global challenges, such as violence against women and girls, lack of women in leadership and the backlash against gender equality and women’s empowerment.
- Women under pressure: the impact of the cost-of-living crisis and cultural and societal inequality and discrimination
- Challenges of being a Woman Member of Parliament
The Isle of Man delegates, who will be accompanied by Jo Corkish, the Deputy Clerk of Tynwald, are:

- Sarah Maltby MHK
The Commonwealth Women Parliamentarians is the network of women members of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. It aims to build the capacity of women elected to parliament to be more effective in their roles and improve the awareness and ability of parliamentarians, male and female, to include a gender perspective in all aspects of their role, including legislation, oversight and representation. It aims to help parliaments to become gender-sensitive institutions. The Isle of Man is part of the British Islands and Mediterranean Region (BIMR) Branch.
