Two Members of the House of Keys - the Hon. Juan Watterson SHK and Hon. Alex Allinson MHK - will be travelling to Ghana to attend the 66^th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference to be held 30 September 2023 - 06 October 2023, Venue: Parliament of Ghana. They will be accompanied by the Clerk of Tynwald, Jonathan King.

The Conference will be an opportunity to meet parliamentary delegations from across the Commonwealth and to participate in plenary sessions and workshops on topics of pan-Commonwealth interest.  The 66th CPC will be held under the theme of 'The Commonwealth Charter 10 years on: Values and Principles for Parliaments to Uphold'. 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the Commonwealth Charter which outlines the principles and values of the Commonwealth.  Further information can be found on the CPA website 66th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference - Event Hub (cpahq.org).

During the Conference, Speaker Watterson will be chairing on The Impact of Population Changes on Small Jurisdictions. He will also be attending the Small Branches Steering Committee in his role as Regional Representative for the British Islands and Mediterranean Region, completing three years in that role which included a year as the Network’s Vice Chair. During the plenary, he will also address all delegates in his capacity as Vice Chair of the Commonwealth Association of Public Accounts Committees – a body dedicated to sharing best practice in the scrutiny of public finances.

Dr Allinson expressed his intention to develop contacts at this annual plenary for Commonwealth parliamentarians, building on the relations forged at previous conferences. He will also be attending sessions on public finances and building sustainable economies, hearing from world experts and contributing from an Isle of Man perspective.
