Hon Clare Barber MHK and Hon Jane Poole-Wilson MHK attended a legislative strengthening seminar at Westminster aimed at addressing modern slavery in supply chains.

Facilitated by the UK Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, (CPA) the seminar was held from October 22 to October 24. The programme provided an opportunity for more than 50 parliamentarians from 17 legislatures across the Commonwealth to explore issues relating to modern slavery in supply chains, and identify techniques and tactics to bring about a reduction in forced labour and other human exploitation practices through effective legislation. 

Mrs Barber said: ‘The programme was well timed with the recent publication of a House of Lords review into the UK Modern Slavery Act, and provided a timely opportunity to review the efficacy of Manx legislation, and how we can best improve our legislative landscape.’

Mrs Poole-Wilson said: ‘There was also insight regarding policy development and effective enforcement, which will help in work to further develop the Island’s response to the crimes of human trafficking and forced labour.’
