Support for Life after School: Call for Evidence

24/04/2025

The Youth Select Committee, now in its second year, is made up of young people aged 15 to 24 years old who scrutinise and hold inquiries into topics of importance to them.

The Youth Select Committee’s second inquiry will examine the educational, vocational, and developmental opportunities available on Island to young people leaving secondary or higher education. Through the examination of Government policy and initiatives, the Committee aims to identify why the Island continues to struggle with retaining its young adult population, and where change is required.

The Committee would like to hear from anyone with views on or direct experience of these issues. The Committee is interested in answering the following questions:

  • How effective are current strategies to retain young people or attract them back to the Island?  How could they be improved?
  • What financial barriers exist for young people pursuing higher education or training, and how could these be addressed?
  • What alternatives exist for young people who do not wish to go to university, and how accessible are they?
  • How could the Government make the Isle of Man a more attractive place for young people to work and study?

Please email your comments to ysc@tynwald.org.im or make a hard copy submission to the address below. The deadline for submissions is Friday 30th May 2025.

The Youth Select Committee may wish to make public any information that is submitted to it but will only do so with the express written consent of the person who has made the submission. More information about how your information will be used can be found here.
