As the Island prepares for its National Day on Monday 7^th July, local community organisations and traders are also getting ready to take part in the traditional Tynwald Day festivities.

With the 5^th July falling on a Saturday, the Tynwald Ceremony will be held on the Monday and this means the 7^th July is also a Public Holiday. There are lots of activities happening across our Island celebrating the long Manx National Weekend including the family festival SPARK at the Villa Marina in Douglas (5^th July), a weekend of live music at Glyn Wyllin campsite (5^th July), the Round the Island Yacht Race (starting 6^th July), and Port St Mary National Day (7^th July). The Isle of Man is also hosting Round 3 of the World Downhill Skateboarding Championship (WDSC) for the first time across the weekend at Tholt-y-Will Road, 4-6^th July. 

The Manx National Weekend will culminate with the Tynwald Ceremony on Monday 7^th July where the vibrancy of the Island’s rich heritage, Manx culture and community spirit come together with the informal activities running alongside the formal Ceremony in the morning, and these carrying on through to the evening for everyone to enjoy.

The Tynwald Day enhancements are a key fixture of our celebrations of our National Day with a focus on free, family friendly entertainment. The schedule for 2025 starts at 9am with activities timetabled across the site all day at the Bunscoill Ghaelgagh, the Viking Village in Cooil-y-Ree, the Royal Chapel, the Global Village in the Arboretum and the Tynwald Fayre on the back Fairfield. Other locations across St. John’s will also be hosting visitors and celebrating the day such as the Methodist Hall selling freshly baked cakes and very welcome cups of tea and Garey yn Ellan Ain Gardens running a free family nature quest.

The entertainment will finish after the final calls in the ceili dancing when we will move from the TynwaldFest tent to the Hill where Ellan Vannin Pipes and Drums will perform supported by a fire performance. A traditional end to what we hope will be a wonderful Tynwald Day.

Tynwald Day Enhancements 2025

Tynwald Fairfield A tradition as old as Tynwald itself; local artists, designers, and producers set up stalls on the Back Fairfield from 9am showing the creativity and entrepreneurship within our Island’s small-business community. There will be food trucks on site keeping you fuelled to enjoy the rest of the activities across the day.

Viking Village To tell the story of Tynwald and share our Viking history, a Viking encampment is set up in Cooil-y-Ree every year showing how our Viking ancestors settled and lived on our Island. Walk down to the Cooil-y-Ree gardens and see if you could have lived like our Norse ancestors.

Bunscoill Take the opportunity to learn some Manx whilst enjoying light refreshments in the Mooinjer Veggey Café from 10am – 4pm. In the morning you can listen to the sounds of Un Choraa, the Manx Community Choir and inafternoon there will be a community workshop with Kate Jerry, and Theatrix Dance School will also be performing.

Global Village Always a family favourite, the One World Centre are hosting a Global village in the Arboretum. Enjoy food, song, dance and music from around the world while learning how Manx charities and organisations are supporting people and the planet for a fairer, more sustainable future for all. You'll find the Global Village in the Arboretum - follow the paths down from the top Fairfield.

The Manx Tent Located by the Millennium Stone the Manx Tent is open from 10am until 5pm and focuses on community organisations. Enjoy a range of Manx cultural offerings from Yn Chruinnaght, the IOM Family History Society, Willow Weaving and more. Don’t miss the live Manx Music session at 1pm with Joughin Violins.

Chapel After the Tynwald Ceremony, music is the focus in the Royal Chapel. From 2pm until 3:30pm enjoy music from local groups Scran and Claasagh, and the rich voices of Lon Dhoo Choir.

Front Green and TynwaldFest! More music is also on offer across the Tynwald Green – the Front Green and the Little Green. The day starts with a performance by Onchan Silver Band at 9:10am and after the Ceremony, IOM Wind Orchestra and Castletown Metropolitan Silver Band will play set pieces. Inside the TynwaldFest tent there is a lunchtime session with Mine’s a Shanty and a Manx Music session before the evening entertainment begins at 5pm with performances from The Enthusiasts, Clash Vooar, Blue Train Big Band and Kipperceili.
As aways we will have food and drink on sale at the TynwaldFest tent, with cocktails served up by Foraging Vintners and delicious food from Tapa Viva.
If you’re more of a dancer than a singer, the Grand Manx Dance is a great spectacle on the Front Green at 2:30pm and Gena’s Dance Academy will be performing outside the TynwaldFest tent at 3:15pm.
This year the Front Green will be transformed into a Manx crazy golf course in the afternoon, with Birdie’s Crazy Golf offering us all a challenge from 4pm until 8pm.
The final performance of the day is scheduled for 10pm when Ellan Vannin Pipes and Drums will play on Tynwald Hill with fire performers Skimmee Aile.

Getting to Tynwald on 7^th July

Road Closures and Parking

Free parking is available at St John’s. Road restrictions are in force throughout the day for health and safety. Please obey all traffic restrictions and follow all directions given by the Scouts who assist with traffic management on the day.

Blue Badge holders wishing to attend Tynwald Day may reserve a parking pass entitling them to a reserved space. Spaces may also be available on the day. For enquiries, telephone 685500.

Tynwald Day Bus Services

On Tynwald Day the Public Holiday bus service operates. Extra journeys to serve the National Festivities at St Johns will operate including two extra night bus services this year to Douglas and Peel:

• TynwaldFest bus to Peel arrives at Tynwald at 22:50
• TynwaldFest bus to Douglas arrives at Tynwald at 23:08
