Using Search
What can I find using search?
On the Tynwald website you can use the Business Search for searching through the following types of records:
- Hansards
- Order and Question Papers
- Votes and Proceedings
- Parliamentary and Committee Reports
- Listen Again MP3 Files
- Secondary Legislation (Final Version)
- Webpages
On the Results page, use the Result Type option to filter the search results.
Filtered Searching
On any business page there is a filtered search restricting the results to a specific type of resource.
The Filtered Search gives you additional search options to narrow your search by type or date. If you are searching for a specific type of file, use the filter drop down to restrict the types of business files shown in the results. The system will filter the results on screen.
Date Parameters
The date parameters are set to be the current month and year. The date range can be expanded or amended as required.
Note that Secondary Legislation documents only have a year associated.
Due to limitations on date formatting, in order to search for Hansard Reports before 1900 you must use the date period 01/01/1900 to 01/01/1900. Use the year you are searching for as a Search Term.
Type of Results
If you are searching for a specific type of file, use the filter drop down to restrict the types of business files shown in the results. The system will filter the results on screen.
Specific File Reference
If you are searching for the specific reference of a file, use the format for that file type:
Order and Question Papers / Votes and Proceedings / Parliamentary and Committee Reports
YYYY-XX-####
Secondary Legislation (from 1992)
YYYY-XX-####
A slash is used as a separator and, if they are omitted, it may return multiple files rather than the one being searched for.
Keyword Searching
You can enter one or more keywords and the system will retrieve the results as applicable. For example adding a year and a keyword will return more specific results.
Any documents not born digital are scanned using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. For older documents, there will be a lower accuracy rate.
Using quotes
When looking for a specific document, you can enter the reference in double quotes and the result will be returned.
Any documents not born digital are scanned using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology. For older documents, there will be a lower accuracy rates and using the specific file reference is recommended.
