House of Keys Committee on the Education Bill 2020 Call for Evidence

In the 30th June sitting of the House of Keys, the following motion was approved

That the Education Bill be referred to a committee of five Members for consideration, to include review of the Beaman's report; and to report by October 2020.

The Members elected to the Committee by the House of Keys are Mr Jason Moorhouse MHK, Mrs Ann Corlett MHK, Mr Lawrie Hooper MHK, Mr Bill Shimmins MHK and Mr Chris Thomas MHK. The Committee has elected Mr Moorhouse as Chair.

The Committee now intends to invite written submissions on the Education Bill 2020. Following written submissions, the Committee intends to offer an additional opportunity for some witnesses to give oral evidence in September, to include their reflections on how the published independent review by Beamans interacts with the Bill. Oral evidence will be taken in public in the Legislative Chamber (or taken virtually if witnesses are based in the UK).

The Committee’s scope of inquiry relates to the Bill before the House rather than to issues relating to education generally; a link to the Bill is published here. Submissions should relate to the Bill in this form.

Submissions should be sent to the address below by Friday, 7th August 2020. Email is preferred, but hard copy is acceptable.

The Committee intends to publish accepted evidence as soon as possible after submission. Personal contact details are routinely redacted in advance of such publication, but contributors should notify the Clerk when making a submission of any part of their evidence which they believe the Committee should not publish. The Committee will take that explanation into account when deciding whether and how much to publish.
