The Social Affairs Policy Review Committee, a Standing Committee of Tynwald, will be taking oral evidence on Monday 1st June 2020. This meeting will be held remotely via a video-conferencing platform. Two topics will be covered: Abbotswood Nursing Home, and grandparents’ rights.

Evidence will be heard from the following persons at the times and on the topics stated.

At 10am (Abbotswood):  Hon David Ashford MHK, Minister for Health and Social Care

Kathryn Magson, Interim Chief Executive Officer Department of Health and Social Care

Catriona Bradley, Head of Registration and Inspection Unit, Department of Health and Social Care

At 11.15am (grandparents’ rights): Chief Inspector Cathryn Bradley

The members of the Social Affairs Policy Review Committee appointed by Tynwald are Ms Julie Edge MHK (Chair), Mr Martyn Perkins MHK and Mr Peter Greenhill MLC.

The Committee’s inquiry into grandparents rights was commenced following the resolution of Tynwald Court in November 2019 to refer a Petition for Redress of Grievance to the Committee. Further information about the work of the Committee and this inquiry can be found on the Tynwald website here.

The Legislative Buildings remain closed to the public. The Committee, staff and witnesses will all participate remotely in this meeting. The evidence will be able to be heard via the livestream on the Tynwald website here. The recording will also be available after the session under the “Listen Again” section of the website here and a Hansard transcription will be published in due course.
