Business support schemes to be scrutinised

The second Public Accounts Committee public emergency scrutiny session will be at 11.05 am on Friday 8th May and will be on the subject of Business Support Schemes.

Chair of the Public Accounts Committee, the Hon Juan Watterson SHK commented, “We are aware that in the course of a few days in mid-March many parts of our economy ground to a halt as the necessary restrictions were placed on people and businesses to curb the spread of Covid-19. The Committee are interested to hear how effective these schemes have been in providing meaningful support.”

The Committee would be pleased to receive written submissions from anyone who wishes to comment on this topic. Submissions should be sent by email to by close of business on Tuesday 5th May 2020.

Current Members of the Public Accounts Committee, the Hon Juan Watterson SHK, Chris Robertshaw MHK and Jane Poole Wilson MLC, will hear from: Minister for Enterprise, Hon Lawrence Skelly MHK; Chief Executive, Department for Enterprise, Mark Lewin and Head of Policy and Strategy, Department for Enterprise, Andrew Stewart. Two further members of the Committee are scheduled to be elected at the sitting of Tynwald on Tuesday.

The Legislative Buildings remain closed to the public. The Committee, staff and witnesses will all participate remotely in this meeting. The evidence will be able to be heard via the livestream on the Tynwald website here.
