The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Secretariat and the British Virgin Islands House of Assembly will jointly host the 9th Commonwealth Youth Parliament from 8 - 12 October, 2017 in the British Virgin Islands (BVI). The CPA Isle of Man Branch has applied for a place and, provided our application is successful, will fund one young person to attend this event.
The Commonwealth Youth Parliament (CYP) is an annual event that is held in a different Commonwealth region each year. Up to 66 young people from across the Commonwealth will experience various aspects of parliamentary democracy and will have a unique opportunity to connect with youth from around the world. Youth parliamentarians will participate in education sessions led by experienced parliamentary officials, take part in parliamentary proceedings including Question Period, and debate and vote on legislation and motions.
The International Youth Parliament is an opportunity for Commonwealth young people to experience aspects of parliamentary democracy and provides a platform for them to establish links with like-minded peers. Formal parliamentary practice adapted from several Commonwealth countries will be followed and the proceedings will be observed under the watchful eyes of experienced parliamentary officials.
If you are aged 18-29, confident and articulate with an interest in the Commonwealth and political affairs, and would be interested in being considered, please apply by sending an e-mail before 5pm on Friday 7th July 2017 setting out in no more than 200 words: (a) how you would benefit from the experience; and (b) how the Isle of Man would benefit from your attendance at the event.
Send the email to email@example.com with the subject line: Commonwealth Youth Parliament 2017.
Note that depending on travel dates you will need to be available between the 6th – 14th October and be willing and able to travel to the BVI.
