Child protection: further witness to appear before Committee

​The Social Affairs Policy Review Committee is continuing its work on children’s social services and in particular the problem of over-referral. The Committee will take oral evidence on this subject next week from Dr David Foreman.

The Committee intends to take this evidence on Thursday 10th September 2015 at 11.00 am in the Legislative Council Chamber, Legislative Buildings, Bucks Road, Douglas. The evidence will be taken in public; members of the public are welcome to attend.

Dr David Foreman MB ChB MSc FRCPsych FRCPCH is a retired consultant in child and adolescent psychiatry and a visiting senior lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry at the Maudsley.

The Social Affairs Policy Review Committee is a Standing Committee of Tynwald with a remit to scrutinise the implemented policies of the Departments of Education and Children, Health and Social Care, and Home Affairs. The Members are Mrs Brenda Cannell MHK (Chair), Mr David Cretney MLC and the Hon Steve Rodan SHK.

The Committee is concerned about the level of referrals to children’s social services and has recently published a report which includes some conclusions and recommendations on this subject. The two volumes of the report can be found at the following locations:
