Visiting military band ‘delighted’ to be at Tynwald Day

Director of Music to the Band of HM Royal Marines Collingwood Major Pete Curtis MBE has said he is ‘proud and delighted’ that the band will be part of this year’s Tynwald Day celebrations.

Some 41 band members will be travelling from their base in Fareham, Hampshire to the Isle of Man where they will perform their ceremonial role during the formal proceedings then play at the Sunset ceremony.

Major Curtis said: ‘We are all looking forward to coming to the Isle of Man for Tynwald Day. The band is, of course, used to playing at prestigious concerts and ceremonial settings around the world but what makes this engagement so special is the history of it; knowing that we are performing at a ceremony in which so many people will have taken part down through the ages. And what’s also unique is “the big long stand” – at around three hours it’s one of the longest but it should pose no challenge to the seasoned players I have in RM Band Collingwood.’
